A passion for teaching and music performance
Eric Angeroth Franks, known by most as Flint, is a trumpeter and music educator based in Des Moines, IA. Currently, he serves as Assistant Professor of Music at Simpson College, in Indianola, IA, where he teaches trumpet and leads the jazz program.
Originally from central Iowa, Flint knew early on that he wanted to follow his passions of music and education. Having graduated from Luther College in 2015 with a degree in music education, Flint has built a career that allows him to share those passions with students and audiences through performance and teaching.
Flint's musical journey has taken him around the world from the various regions in the U.S. to countries such as Brazil, China, Austria and Serbia. He's given numerous masterclasses, clinics and solo recitals at high schools and universities, as well performances with ensembles like the brass group Hot Horns and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra.
Along the way, Flint has completed additional studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (M.M. in Trumpet Performance '19) and at Florida State University (D.M. in Brass Performance '23). His main teachers include Dr. Richard Tirk, Dr. Brent Dodson, Dr. John Cord, Prof. Mark Clodfelter, and Dr. Christopher Moore.
